Geppetto Produce
Geppetto produce, initially developed to compliment Crittenden’s wines, began in 2005 with a 100% Mornington Peninsula Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Four years on the range is expanding and is developing a following of its own, independent of the Crittenden Estate range of wines. The driving force behind the produce is simple: Garry’s passion for wine, food and all things yummy!
Local and organic ingredients are sourced wherever possible. Quinces for the cogna, for example, are hand selected from the trees on which they grow just up the road. The dukkah is made by Margaret (Garry’s wife) from scratch; the initial roasting of the ingredients through to the mixing of the final blend. For this reason one batch may differ from the next. No preservatives are used and the quality of the range is exemplary. Various items in the Geppetto Produce range can be found in delis around Melbourne and on the Mornington Peninsula as well as the Crittenden Estate cellar door. All items can be purchased securely on line.

Cugna is a chutney style condiment that is best known in the Piedmont region of Italy. It is unique in that it is sweet, savoury bitter and tart. It makes a wonderful accompaniment to boiled meats, terrines, hard cheeses and grilled sausages. Most of the ingredients were grown on our property. NO LONGER AVAILABLE

An Egyptian mix of coarsely ground almonds, sesame seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, black pepper and sea salt, the Geppetto Dukkah is delicious with crusty bread and extra virgin olive oil. It can also be sprinkled over salads or pressed onto lamb, fish or chicken with oil before roasting or barbequing.
Our Vinocotto is made by reducing over heat the “must” (juice) of Mornington Peninsula grapes with acetified morello cherries and a special blend of spices. The resultant sweet Vinocotto is what the Italians would call “aspretti” and has a myriad of use in both sweet and savoury dishes as well as a mixer for drinks and cocktails. Aged in oak casks.
This EVOO is suitable for the table, for use in salad dressings or in cooking. The mid-palate is generous with a hint of fresh grassiness and the finish has a delightful peppery astringency, not as in white or black peppercorns, but more like the character you find in rocket and cress.
